Friend Callout Information
friend is a performance for non-professional dancers to perform in their home to an audience of only their friends. In collaboration with Home Live Art choreographer Gillie Kleiman is looking for four people to participate in the project in Hastings and St Leonards.
Working with Gillie the four chosen participants will learn and develop a solo dance across seven weeks in January and February 2024. Participants will receive material packs with workshop activities to do at home, and take part in Zoom meetings with Gillie and the other participants to co-develop the dance in what will be a flexible (and fun!) process.
Then on Saturday the 23rd of March, all at the same time, each participant will perform the solo dance in their own home to their friends, followed by a shared meal. While happening at the same time each of the four performances of friend will be specific and special to each participant and their loved ones.
Being part of friend will involve trying out new things, being up for a challenge and curious to contribute ideas whilst also having fun and feeling rewarded. Previous performers have said things like
“It was a liberating experience, scary and wonderful, and I am so proud of myself for doing it! It’s opened me up again to being creative and gave me a boost mentally as well as being more sociable and bringing my friends together.”
“The way I think about what a performer and an audience is has shifted, and about who is both of those entities. I appreciate and feel like I have more of an understanding of and connection with contemporary dance. It was an opportunity for me to notice how non judgmental my friends were and that they loved me regardless and would have likely enjoyed anything I did!”

An introduction to yourself, including your name, pronouns, and contact details (so that, if selected, we can organise ourselves well to welcome you to the project)
A description of your interest in the project (why you would like to do it and any other experience you have of dancing, performing or artmaking)
Optional diversity monitoring questions (to help us understand the reach of this opportunity and better tailor future call-outs)
